Teaching Philosophy

All students, no matter their background, are capable learners worthy of my respect. By creating  an classroom environment that offers rigorous curricula, rich resources, and a diversity of experiences, I support students to learn in authentic ways.  I believe, children learn and construct their own knowledge by making connections to and meaning of the people, places, ideas and things in the world.  

I believe the essential factor driving a young person’s capacity to engage and learn is the quality of the relationship between teacher and student. I am committed to supporting students in ways that affirm their dignity, sense of hope, racial, ethnic, and cultural identities, as well as their personal dreams.

All students deserve to learn in a liberating environment where the classroom culture encourages self-expression, social awareness, civil discussion, cooperation among peers, and collaboration between teacher and students.
